In the next lines, you’re going to have a quick overview of different styles of hypnotherapy to understand what is best to take.
Directive approach – for this approach, what the hypnotherapist do is guiding the client in state of hypnosis and after that, give suggestion on what to do. Actually, many people are familiar of such approach as this is the technique we see often in movies and stage hypnosis.
As a matter of fact, almost every style of hypnotherapy is using this aspect. Just telling clients to be comfortable and relax and take deep breaths is already a direct suggestion. If ever the client is open, receptive and suggestible to the process and if they don’t have inner conflicts on the focus of hypnotherapy session, direct suggestion will work effectively.
Open ended style – here, rather than telling the client to close their eyes, the hypnotherapist is utilizing a permissive style of hypnosis that may use a permissive or embedded suggestion. In this suggestion, the language is mirroring what the client is experiencing and that he/she has the freedom to respond to what is suggested or not.
In open ended style, the hypnotherapists use metaphor in teaching clients new inner response to the situation or expand the resources and perception of client regarding the problem or issue. As a matter of fact, those who are under this style tells that things are more fluid, effortless and organic.
Transpersonal approach – most of the time, hypnotherapist invokes the inner wisdom of their client directly and asking for its support to guide the session. What happens then is enabling the client to access this wisdom and be able to work in it with trance through voice dialogue, symbolic communication etc. Whether you believe it or not, this style backs the cultivation of the client’s ongoing relationship with their inner wisdom.
